【ワンポイントレッスン】Promotionのいろいろな意味や使う場面

“promotion”（プロモーション）という単語がビジネスの場では使われます。

この単語が意味するところを日本の漢字で書いたとしたら、使用場面によって、10以上の異なった表現（書き方）があることでしょう。

幸運にも、英語だと“promotion”の使い分けは3つだけです。いくつかの例を見てみましょう。

1. He got a promotion this month because the current vice-president is retiring next month.

彼はいまの副社長が来月退職するため、今月昇進した。

2. Our local coffee shop has a great sales promotion now. For every large coffee you order, you will receive a free donut.

我々の地元の喫茶店は現在、すばらしい販促キャンペーンをやっている。Lサイズのコーヒーを頼むと、ただでドーナツが1つもらえる。

3. Our company just implemented a new workplace health promotion program. Now all employees are required to take stress management training once a year.

私の会社はこの度新しい職場健康推進プログラムを実施しました。今では全ての従業員が年1回のストレスマネジメント研修を受ける必要があります。

“Promotion”には3つの使い方があります。

a. An advancement or an increase in rank.（階級が上がること）

b. Advertisement　（広告、宣伝、キャンペーン）

c. Encouragement of improvement or acceptance（改善の促進、理解の推進）

***Promotionは名詞です。動詞は“promote”です。

動詞の形での例をいくつか挙げます。

a. Mr. Roberts wants to promote Satoshi next month.
ロバートさんはサトシを来月昇進させたいです。

b. TECHERS will promote its newest tablet at the New Tech Fair in Germany.
テッカーズ社はドイツでのNew Tech Fairにて最新のタブレットを売り込む予定です。

c. Schools need to promote a healthy lifestyle to children.
学校は子供に健康的な生活を推進する必要がある。
