とても大きなものを表すいくつかの単語を見てみましょう。

One summer day I while I was sitting in my room, I heard a loud buzzing sound. I looked around and saw an “enormous” bee on my curtain. I have never seen a bee that size before. Japan certainly has some interesting creatures.

そのbee(ハチ)はどのくらい大きかったのでしょうか。‘enormous’、巨大だったんですね。

また、似た意味を表すものとしてhuge(巨大な)、 gigantic(巨大な)、 massive(大きい、どっしりした) 、 humongous(途方もなく大きい)、といった単語もあります。

“My friend has an ‘enormous’ appetite. He can eat two large pizzas for lunch.”(私の友達はとんでもない食欲がある。彼はお昼にLサイズのピザを2つ食べられる)、“There is a ‘massive’ Buddha statue in Ushiku city.”(牛久市に大きな大仏がある)、“There was a ‘humongous’  line of people waiting for the opening of the new flagship store in Shibuya.”(渋谷の新しい旗艦店の開店を待つとてつもなく長い人の行列があった)、“I think that the apples in Japan are ‘huge’. ”(日本のリンゴは巨大だと思う)といった使い方ができます。

 今まで見た中で最も巨大なものは何ですか?それを見たとき、怖くありませんでしたか?

See you next time!
