Rehabilitation in Prison?

For decades, there have been ongoing discussions about the rehabilitation of criminals while they are in prison. There are two views to this discussion, one where some people believe that they can be rehabilitated and the other that believes it is a waste of time and effort. Over the years there have been many studies done on this subject and still there is no clear cut answer.

The people in favor of believe that by counseling and teaching trades will change the ethics of the criminal. If this works, when they are released they will be able to get a job, feel productive and contribute to society in a positive manner.

The people that do not support the view of rehabilitation have the belief that the criminal is never going to change. When they need justification for this type of thinking they refer back to stories where criminals have been released back into society and they have immediately gone back to their criminal ways. There have been instances where criminals have been released back into society and the rehabilitation has been a complete success so the debate will go on for many more years.
