Studying Abroad

Many people from the UK take the opportunity to study abroad. Some people go to universities in other countries and some people go to study languages. Studying and living abroad can be an amazing experience. There are many advantages and disadvantages to living and studying abroad. A popular saying in the UK is “Travel broadens the mind”.

One of the best things about studying abroad is that you can experience the culture and lifestyle of a different country. You will encounter many different traditions and ways of life. Some things may be strange or surprising. You can sample delicious new food and drinks. You can meet lots of interesting people and visit beautiful places. Also, you can learn how people have different ways of thinking and living and you may even make some new friends.

Some disadvantages could be problems with communication and misunderstandings. As a foreigner in another country you must be aware of the different laws and customs. For example, in the UK you are allowed to drink a limited amount of alcohol when driving but in Japan you cannot drink any. You may also get homesick, some people miss their homes, family and friends so much that they give up and go home. Sometimes a new culture can be so different that people get culture shock and they can’t get used to their new life.
