Yes, I am starving! I made lunch for us. I hope you are not a fussy eater.
Sarah
I am not picky about food. Wow, you made it all? It looks so professional and yummy!
Mayumi
Thank you. I have been taking a cooking class after work.
Sarah
That’s why it looks like a chef made it. How long have you been taking the class?
Mayumi
I have been taking the class for almost 3 years. I want to open my own restaurant in the near future.
サラ：
マユミ、もう１２時だわ。お昼にしない？

マユミ：
そうね。腹ペコだわ！お弁当をつくってきたの。サラは好き嫌いがないと良いんだけど。

サラ：
好き嫌いはないわよ。わ～、これ全部あなたが作ったの？まるでプロが作ったみたいで美味しそう！

マユミ：
ありがとう。仕事の後に料理教室にかよっているのよ。

サラ：
なるほど、だからシェフが作ったみたいなのね。お教室にはどれぐらい通っているの？

マユミ：
受講し始めてほぼ３年になるわ。近い将来、自分でレストランを開業したいと思っているの。

Activity 1: Read the situations below and tell what the person has been doing using today’s language.

1. Jane lives in Tokyo. She moved there 5 years ago. She started teaching English in 2008. She started taking kimono lessons in 2010.
2. It is raining. It started raining 2 hours ago. We are waiting for the bus. We arrived at the bus stop 30 minutes ago.
3. Kim is on vacation. She is in Australia. She is taking pictures of Australian wildlife such as koalas, kangaroos and emus.
4. Bob works in a restaurant. He bought the restaurant 10 years ago. Bob is the executive chef in the restaurant and makes the dinner menu. Bob is very busy and is looking for another chef. He started interviewing people 2 weeks ago.
