Anything wrong, Sayoko? You look awful!
Sayoko
Oh, Roy! I can’t help but feel anxious about the presentation at TIC Corporation tomorrow!
Roy
You’ve spent the whole month preparing for it. I know you can do well! What are you so worried about? You know what they say, don’t cross your bridges before you come to them!
Sayoko
Well, I guess you’re right. I’ve just got to do what I’m supposed to do.
Roy
Right. But you should also remember there’s a saying, a miss is as good as a mile.
Sayoko
Roy! Are you trying to make me feel even worse or what? I thought you were a friend of mine!
ロイ　：どうかしたのかい、小夜子。ひどい顔をしてるよ。
小夜子：あぁロイ！明日のTIC社でのプレゼンが心配で仕方ないのよ。
ロイ　：丸一ヶ月もかけて準備したじゃないか。うまくいくよ。何がそんなに心配なんだい？こんなことわざがあるじゃないか。“取り越し苦労をするな“ってね。
小夜子：えぇと、そうかもしれないわね。私はただやるべきことをすればいいのよね。
ロイ　：そのとおり。でもこんなことわざもあるよね、“一毫の差、千里になる”・・・。
小夜子：ロイ！私のこともっと悩まそうとしているのかそれとも何？私あなたのことを友達だと思っていたのに！

Activity1: Look at the examples above. Can you think of another way of saying them?
練習1： 上記の表現を見てください。別の言い回しが考えつきますか。

Activity2: Do you know other proverbs? Try to translate some proverbs from Japanese, word for word into English. See if your tutor will understand what you’re trying to say. Also see if there are any similar proverbs in English.
練習2： 他にことわざを知っていますか。ことわざの単語ひとつひとつを英語に置き換えて、あなたが何を言おうとしているのか先生に伝わっているかどうかを確かめましょう。また似ている意味のことわざが英語にあるかどうかも確かめましょう。
