Jane
So, Yoshi, how did it go in your meeting today?
Yoshi
It was tough. The client didn’t smile once when I was doing the presentation. And never asked any questions.
Jane
Oh, that doesn’t sound so good.
Yoshi
That’s the thing. I didn’t expect to win the contract. But at the end of the presentation, the client suddenly smiled and said he liked it and wanted us to send him the contract tomorrow. That was all he said.
Jane
Wow! Great news for you then!
ジェーン：ところでヨシ、今日のミーティングはどうだった？
ヨシ　　：大変だったよ。クライアントはプレゼンテーションの間一度たりとも笑わなかったんだ。そして何の質問もしなくて。
ジェーン：あら、それはいまいちな感じね。
ヨシ　　：そこなんだよ。契約が取れるなんて思ってもみなかったんだ。けれどプレゼンテーションの終わりに、クライアントが突然笑顔になって、気に入ったから明日契約書を送ってくれって言ったんだ。彼が言ったことはそれだけだったんだけど。
ジェーン：へえ、よかったじゃない！

Using manage to before a verb means that the action was difficult.
